Diamond grinding wheels are a newly developed type.Diamond dresserThe dressing time is much shorter in non-linear dressing compared to single-grain diamond pen dressing wheels, making it easy to dress various complex shaped surfaces. The methods of roller diamond dressers are divided into swing roller dressing and plunge roller dressing. Due to the simpler structure of plunge dressers compared to swing dressers, they are widely used in actual production. When the diamond dresser performs plunge roller dressing, the roller is driven by a motor to rotate and moves in a plunging motion relative to the grinding wheel, thus dressing the grinding wheel. Below is an introduction to the application of plunge-type diamond roller dressers in channel grinding.
Using existing surface grinders instead of vertical grinders for channel grinding, a diamond dresser was designed. The support is fixedly installed at the front part of the machine bed, and the base is mounted on the support, which can be adjusted longitudinally and laterally. The spindle drive uses a multi-wedge belt drive, which is stable and reliable. The roller shaft adopts a sleeve-type spindle with a dual-support shaft structure composed of two sets of angular contact ball bearings. The driving motor uses a stepless speed-regulating motor, which is a lightweight aluminum shell wireless speed-regulating motor that ensures that the linear speed ratio (qd) between the roller and grinding wheel remains within a certain range. As the grinding wheel wears down, its linear speed decreases; therefore, it is necessary to appropriately reduce the rotation speed of the roller to achieve an ideal dressing effect. The plunge feed for diamond dressers has been changed to wheel feed; during dressing, the roller remains stationary while using the manual mechanism of the original machine tool's wheel feed for manual feeding to achieve plunging motion during dressing. Dressing can also be performed with no movement of the grinding wheel and feeding from rollers. At this time, the structure of diamond dressers becomes complex, including linear guides, ball screws, stepper motors, etc. The rolling action can be designed as a simple CNC system with an action program designed as: fast advance slow advance light repair exit.
Precautions when using diamond dressers: Due to their short dressing time, ability to dress various complex profiles, good profile accuracy, and convenient operation characteristics, their application effects have gradually been recognized and widely used in production. However, attention should be paid to several points during design, manufacturing and use of rollers:
1. The grain size of diamonds should be one grade coarser than that of dressing wheels; moreover, diamonds should have similar grain sizes with shapes close to spherical form; commonly used grain sizes range from #36 to #100. Generally speaking, both rollers and wheels have their contact points moving in similar directions with their linear speed ratio (qd value) being between 0.3 and 0.7 but should not exceed 1.
2. During diamond dresser operation when dressed by rollers, cutting amount per revolution for each wheel should be between 0.5-1 m; total amount dressed on wheels should be between 0.02-0.04 mm while light repair time should be minimized as much as possible. The fit clearance between diamond roller holes and installed bearings should be between 2-4 m; manufacturing error for rollers should be less than about half that of workpiece tolerances.
3.
